Why is café design its own discipline?
A café is not a small restaurant. It operates at a different tempo, on a tighter plan, with margins that punish design mistakes. Compact footprints mean every square metre must serve two or three purposes — a queue line that becomes a display, a window ledge that doubles as seating, a counter that works as bar, till and stage.
The counter is the centre of gravity. It is where the product is made, where the brand performs and where the customer's eye lands first. Design it well and it carries the room; design it badly and no decoration downstream will recover it. We treat the counter as the first architectural decision, not the last joinery item.
Then there is flow. A café must handle two guests at once: the one with ninety seconds for a takeaway flat white and the one who intends to occupy a table for two hours with a laptop. Morning-rush flow and linger zones are opposing demands on the same floor. The interior must separate them — queuing clear of seated areas, pickup points that do not cross the entrance — while reading as one coherent space.
How do we build a café's concept and identity?
Every brief begins with the story the space must tell. We do not design for the ego, but for the will of creating something new for each project — experimenting with architecture and materials to push boundaries and deliver a truly original environment. In a café, where the customer is never more than a few metres from any surface, identity is communicated at close range, through proportion, light and material rather than scale.
Our built work shows the range this produces. Osk Croissanterie (Abu Dhabi, 2021) gave a bakery-café its own architectural character. Brunch Morsel (Abu Dhabi, 2022) shaped a venue around an all-day, social rhythm. Let's Café (Abu Dhabi, 2026) organises an entire social landscape around a single sculptural central element, finished in green and maroon tiles — one strong gesture that gives the venue instant recognition. Which materials survive heavy daily use?
A café interior absorbs more abuse per square metre than almost any other hospitality typology: hundreds of seatings a week, constant movement at the counter, spills, heat, cleaning chemicals. Material honesty — a defining 2026 direction identified by firms such as Gensler and Wimberly — is not only an aesthetic position here; it is a maintenance strategy.
We specify for the cycle, not the opening week. Stone and solid timber where hands and cups land; tiled surfaces that can be scrubbed without fading; upholstery selected for replaceability as much as texture. The green and maroon tile work at Let's Café is a case in point — a hard-wearing finish that is also the venue's identity. A café that looks tired at month six is a design failure, whatever the launch photographs showed.
What is the specialty-coffee context in Dubai and Abu Dhabi?
The market conditions café owners are designing into are unusually favourable. Dubai welcomed 19.59 million international overnight visitors in 2025, up 5% on the previous year — a third consecutive record, according to Dubai's Department of Economy and Tourism. The Michelin Guide Dubai 2025 now covers 119 restaurants across 35 cuisines, and F&B as a destination in its own right is a defining hospitality trend for 2026. Coffee culture sits directly in that current: the café has become a social anchor and a brand statement, not an amenity.

Yes. The counter, equipment layout, prep and storage are designed as part of the architecture, in coordination with your equipment suppliers — workflow is resolved in the drawings, not improvised on site.
